For the past couple of years, The Kingfisher Resort has become another one of my home away from home. I just love being in Pagudpud from November to March. The wave sailing conditions here in the north of the Philippine Islands are as good as in Hawaii that time of year, with an average of 25 knots of wind blowing side shore and 2 meter waves nearly every day, there is more than enough conditions for me to train in windsurfing with my RRD Hardcore Wave Contest
boards and improve my kite boarding skills .
I’ve been coming to this region for 6 years in a row, and brought my friends and RRD team riders Andy Fly and Sylvain Demercastel. We pioneered most of the spots around here. Eventually by good word of mouth the area is now starting to see a healthy tourism of wind riders showing up. The Kingfisher Resort is the only hotel catering specially to riders, and it is located in front of what is probably the best spot around.
An award was given to me last week by the gorgeous governor of Ilocos Norte, Imee Marcos, for my effort in promoting the region and developing a new type of tourism. This is a great honor for me and it means so much to my career as a wave rider searching the world for perfect spots.
Now I’m on my way back to Hawaii, after a quick stop at home on Oahu, I’ll be on my way to Maui for the Neil Pryde and RRD photo shooting. And after 4 month at Kingfisher I can say that I am as ready as ever to go and rip it up at Ho’okipa. I’m looking forward to a great shooting.
